How the editorial desk handles the little information it receives.
The short account
Stochastic Series Lab is a static academic reference. It keeps no visitor records, runs no third-party measurement, and places no advertising. The only information the desk receives is the information a reader chooses to send, and that information is used for one purpose only: to answer the message in which it arrived.
Information you send
If you use the contact page, you may enter your name, your electronic mail address, an optional organisation, a subject and a message. These details are used solely to read and answer your note. They are not added to a mailing list, not published, and not combined with any other record. You are welcome to leave the organisation field empty, and you may write in the third person if you prefer to keep your name out of the correspondence.
Necessary storage
The pages of this reference set a small amount of necessary storage in your browser so that they behave as expected between visits. This storage supports the ordinary display of the pages and does not identify you. It is described in the Cookie Policy, where the distinction between necessary storage and any other kind is set out in full. No other kind is used here.
How long details are kept
A message is kept only for as long as it takes to read, answer and, where relevant, act upon. Once the correspondence is complete and any correction has been prepared, the note is no longer needed. The desk does not maintain an archive of past correspondence, and it does not retain an address for future use after a matter is closed.
Sharing
The desk passes no details to any third party. It does not disclose information to advertisers, brokers or any other recipient. Because the reference carries no third-party elements at all, there is no recipient to whom anything could be passed even in principle. A reader who wishes to avoid sending any details may simply read the reference without using the contact page.
Your choices
You may ask the desk to confirm what it holds about you, to correct it, or to remove it. Because the desk holds so little, a request of this kind can usually be answered from the correspondence itself. Write to the desk through the contact page, quoting the subject of the earlier note, and the request will be honoured promptly.
Children
The reference is intended for students and researchers, and it is not directed at children. The desk does not knowingly collect information from children, and it asks that a young reader who wishes to write do so through a parent, a teacher or a guardian.
Changes to this policy
If the practice of the desk ever changes, this page will be revised and the date of the revision recorded. Because the reference is static and its design is spare, large changes are unlikely. A reader who returns after a long absence may nonetheless wish to reread these few paragraphs, together with the Terms of Use and the Disclaimer.
How to reach the desk
Questions about this policy may be addressed to Stochastic Series Lab, Editorial Office, 640 Memorial Drive, Suite 210, Cambridge, MA 02139, United States, or by electronic mail to contact@stochastic-series-lab.org. The desk answers such questions in the same order as other correspondence.
